264 million people or half of all European Union citizens could be producing their own electricity by 2050, and meeting 45% of the EU’s electricity demand. Collective projects like REScoops could contribute 37% of the electricity produced by prosumers.
Renewable energy and energy efficiency projects typically require large investments at the beginning, making it hard for starting REScoops to launch their first projects. REScoop.eu is working on a solution.
REScoop.eu represents 1,250 individual REScoops and their 650,000 citizens. Full members are either individual REScoops or regional REScoop federations. Associate members include NGOs, academic networks and other related associations.
REScoop is short for renewable energy cooperative, and refers to a business model where citizens jointly own and participate in renewable energy or energy efficiency projects. We also refer to REScoops as community power or community energy initiatives.
