In may 2017 REScoop.eu got accepted as a member of the Coalition for Energy Savings. The Coalition strives to make energy efficiency and energy savings the first consideration of energy and economic policies. By joining forces with organisations like WWF, Client Earth and CEDEC, REScoop.eu aims to strenghten its voice in the European corridors when it comes to saving energy.
A lot of European REScoops attended our General Assembly in Gerona (Spain) on 12 June 2017. Beside a plenary session covering our activities in 2016, we had interactive sessions on topics like European advocacy, energy efficiency, financing, IT development and e-mobility. REScoop.eu got accepted as a full member of Cooperatives Europe, the European branch of the International Cooperative Alliance. The General Assembly of Cooperatives Europe gathered on the island of Malta yesterday and unanimously accepted REScoop.eu as its 7th sector organisation. Cooperatives Europe represents all European cooperatives and acts as the European branch of the International Cooperative Alliance.
In december 2016 the European Commission published a series of proposals to reform the European Energy Market. REScoop.eu is happy that the Commission has finally recognised the benefits of community-owned renewables and cooperatives.
264 million people or half of all European Union citizens could be producing their own electricity by 2050, and meeting 45% of the EU’s electricity demand. Collective projects like REScoops could contribute 37% of the electricity produced by prosumers.
